myLot Discussions on The Flaming Lips CD| Does anyone like the flaming lips? | | Me and a couple friends recently got to see them live a couple months ago, it was amazing! They put on a awesome show with confetti and balloons.
| | Which songs give you strenght and power when you feel sad? | | It's know that music can help a lot when people feel sad, everyone of us has his/her favourie kind of music, so now I'm asking you what are the songs which give you strenght and power when you feel unhappy.
I personally prefer the songs by Christina Aguilera, especially the last ones such as "Ain't no other man", "Car Wash", "Can't hold us down", "Candyman". What about you?
| | Describe the moment you realized what you wanted to do with/wanted out of life | | At one point did you have that "Aha!" moment where you finally figured out what you wanted to with or what you wanted out of your life? Where were you? What were you doing? How has figuring out your life's purpose change you? Are you doing what you want to do now, or still working towards it?I figured out what I wanted to do with my life when I was 10. I was listening to Alice Cooper's "I'm 18", and it was the first time I realized that songs were a form of storytelling, which I loved to do. I thought, "I want to be a writer. And I want music to be my source of inspiration." So, now, nine years later, I still want to be a writer--of books, of movies, of plays. And music is still my inspiration. In fact, I have written several short stories based on or around the plots I've deriven from song lyrics ("Race for the Prize" by the flaming Lips, "Screenwriter's Blues" by soulcoughing, and of course, that Alice Cooper song, to name a few), some of which have won top prizes in fiction-writing contests. I'm studying at a university at the moment, with a dual-major in Professional writing and Film/Media. And as soon as I graduate in a year... | |
| | Tell me a lyric that motivates you | | Here's mine:“I’ve made mistakes, I’ve burned a bridge. Apologize—what?! There’s only one life to live.”
—MEST“Do you realize that everyone you know someday will die? And instead of saying all of your goodbyes, let them know you realize that life goes fast, it’s hard to make the good things last, you realize the sun dun go down, it’s just an illusion caused by the world spinning round.”
-The flaming lips“We turned feces to fertilizer
So when you diss it’s just food for the flowers to grow.”“And when the fish bowl got too small to hold the goldfish
We filled our gills with water and ripped that mother f*cker.”
--Gym Class Heroesof course, that Alice Cooper song, to name a few), some of which have won top prizes in fiction-writing contests. I'm studying at a university at the moment, with a dual-major in Professional writing and Film/Media. And as soon as I graduate in a year and a half, I'm moving to NYC. So that's the long-and-short of my story. What's yours?

| | Yoko Ono. | | Yes folks, in case you didn't know, the wife of deceased Beatle John Lennon is releasing her first LP in six years. This time she's teaming up with some kinda cool people on Yes, I'm a Witch, which hits stores in the US on Tuesday (February 6th). The list includes The Flaming Lips, The Polyphonic Spree, Cat Power, Porcupine Tree, and The Apples in Stereo. Here's where I'm torn. I mean, I just listened to the track she did with Polyphonic Spree, and in my opinion her vocals completely ruin it. On one hand, I love some of the artists that appear on the album (think Flaming Lips) but on the other hand, Yoko herself irks me so much that I don't think I'm going to invest in it.What think you, oh great Music Forum? | |
| | Has anyone been to a Violent Femmes gig? | | I saw them last year and they were great. It was an outdoor festival and Bob Dylan and The Flaming Lips played too. I just noticed there were no Violent Femmes discussions so I thought I'd try starting one. | |
| | Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire-Comedy Central | | hi all,I think Comedy Central’s new series KROD MANDOON and the FLAMING SWORD of FIRE is a pretty good show for starters. It’s about freedom fighters in a fantasy world who are under siege by an evil Chancellor who is known as Dongalor (played by Matt Lucas). His character is so wicked and funny, I love his sly demeanor.[em]lol[/em] The show has plenty of sword fighting and all kinds of weird creatures. The characters are stereotypical but amusing. The pagan warrior princess Aneka (India de Beaufort) is charming. I’ve seen two episodes and will be watching this show again for the season. So, why do you like this tv series? yes or no? please share your comments too…[em]happy[/em]

| | | Absolutely flaming ridiculous | | This is only a quick one, but I'm both amused and slightly annoyed...I'm listening to a few Jeff Buckley songs on a site, right, I won't go into it cos it's not important for this discussion, but what is important is that at the bottom of the screen, an advert's popped up saying "find out when Jeff Buckley will be performing in your area!"That'd be a frigging miracle, the guy died in 1996.How can a drowned man perform any music, anywhere, I ask you? Now, I'm a huge fan of Jeff Buckley anyway, so I guess that's why I'm mildly annoyed about it.But come on, this shouldn't be allowed to happen! What do you reckon? | |
