| Do you use big words around your kids? | | Today I asked my daughter if she felt glum, and she gave me a strange look as if I'd grown an extra head off the side of my neck. And, then I realized that glum was one of the words she hasn't yet added to her vocabulary. So, I rephrased the sentence. And, it made me think. Do all parents occasionally use big words around their kids? Sometimes my spouse and I will use big words that we know she doesn't understand. It's our way of talking in code. Do you do that? Does it help you talk about adult stuff like bills without worrying the kids? | |
| | you'd be surpise if you knew | | our church have been studying about fasting a pastor by the name of jentzen franklin wrote about fasting. I was absoutely shockeD and amazed it definately made me rethink what we eat. our pastor was saying there was a study done the the average person consumes 4 pounds of sugars,dyes&chemicals a year no wonder there are so many people sick. They my family eats I dont think is bad because we cut out compeletly eating out. We stop buying store bought fruit juices and started making our own juice. My kids used to be bad about drinking cool aid I have stop that compeletly and replaced it with the juice and water. yeah it was rough at first becuase your geting rid of all those toxicans in your body but once you get past the first few days your fine now in fact my kids will perfer juice or water over something else. In the book of daniel it's talked about how daniel fasteD and that he didnt eat of the kings (or choice) food which was meats breads ect.now im not saying there's anything wrong with those foods if there prepared properly and in moderartion. It's really about a lifestyle chance more than anything and yeah it... | |

| Why Not??? | | Here in the States, I see that the public schools are big on pushing the kids to learn a second language such as Spanish or French. It is required unless they have a learning disability. I have long wondered and actually have questioned the schools from time to time, why is it that they don't teach sign language? When a child is deaf/dumb they are usually educated in a special school and then they are on their own in a world where so many don't know how to communicate fluently with them. Why don't we first teach our children the art of sign language? Why is it that the deaf and mute are being taught in special schools rather than main streamed? Maybe there is a good and logical answer for this?? Is sign language universal? | | save those dimes!! | | As many of you know, my friend and I make incense burners out of beer bottles. I display them at the store that I work at. They have always been a big attraction for the kids who are way too young to be playing with fire and burning things. I had listened to enough kids bugging their parents for one that I felt I had to come up with another use for these bottles. Do you realize that a beer bottle holds 70.00 worth of dimes? well it does. I tested it out. I have made tons of these for free for the little customers who actually will make it a goal to fill that bottle rather than to spend their dimes. Heck they don't even spend their quarters. They come into the store and change them in for dimes so they can fill their bottle. Some of them come in and report to me weekly how much they have accumulated. They keep an on-going log of their savings. It's pretty cool incentive. I have my own little dime catcher. It is just a clear beer bottle but it works. you could get creative and decorate one up for a little kid in your life or even put one on your dresser and fill it up....70.00...who couldn't use it these days? | |

| Life never stops around here | | If nothing exciting happened we wouldn't know why we should get up in the morning, now that our big rescue is under control we have a new family moving in, they have lost their job and their home so they are coming here for a few months, when this happens it's a big help because there is always more work then we can do. They work and we feed and house them. It's a big adjustment because the kids have to change schools but we try to make that as easy as it can be, we have rural bus service here. When people come like this we don't consider it charity we call it help and hope that both parties are happy with the results. It doesn't always work out, usually people that come have been so traumatized by what has happened to them
that it takes awhile for the healing that comes from this place on earth to work. I just hope that they can stay long enough for it to work. Thus starts the new year | |
| | Autism, ADHD and presciption medicines. | | I have been offered several times medication for my son to calm him down. He is Autistic but also borderline ADHD. But everytime I have turned it down as I feel I cope quite well with my son without sedating him and I feel he doesn't need it. But I have a friend who's son has ADHD and he is on medication for it.I find it a really difficult subject, because you read a lot of bad things about mediaction for kids. But I know my friend is happier her son takes his medication and she says he is happier for it. He finds school a lot easier so therefore because school is such a big part of our kids life it makes him happier all round.Though I remember the struggle she had when he was first diognosed. It has taken the doctors ages to find the right medication for him. Some made him lose his appetite completely. Some made him like a zombie literally, others had the effect of making him more hyperactive. So it has been a long struggle to find the right one. Personally I don't want to put my child through that, I feel it is almost using them like guinea pigs to find the right combination of drugs for their illness.I wondered what the views where here. | Wow......43 straight.... | | I come from a rinky dink little town; population under 1000 people within the city limits.
We have very little to offer our young people in the way of entertainment so it's not a big surprise that our sports teams are a big hit with the kids...and the adults who attend.
So I was pleasantly surprised tonight to here of our football team the Rams win their 43rd straight game tonight against the second in state football rivals!
We have had a wonderful decade of wins and successes with this coach and friend Brian.This has made us number 1 in the state in our category....and they have worked so hard to get there.
I was wondering if any other lotters have this particular accomplishment that they can talk about with their sports teams....is your town winning the state games? Are they becoming number 1 in their league?
And do you think a small town stands a better chance or a worse chance in winning state than a bigger city? | |

There are also some whose reason is they do not want to be tied-up at home taking care of the kids. They are the people who have the capacity to give birth but choose not to.But what if you want to have kids and have dreamed of having one big happy family since kids but your partner has no capacity to produce a child? | I need some gardening tips, please! I am a first time gardener. | | Okay...so this is the first year I have ever tried to keep a garden.
So far, I am ding quite well I must say. I have a small vegetable garden with lettuce,green beans,cucumbers,tomatoes, peppers,and onions. Yesterday I bought some pumpkin seeds,melon seeds (watermelon and cantaloupe) and my boyfriend, bless his heart, finally bought me the miss kim lilac tree that I have been asking for. I LOVE LILACS!!!!!ANyhow, is there anything I need to know about lilacs before I pick a spot in he yard to plant them? Do they need constant sun or shade? I dont want to kill them.Also, how do I plant the melon and pumpkin seeds? Should I put them straight into the ground or should I start them off in small planters and transfer them later. And do they need a lot of sun or shade?I want to grow big pumpkins for the kids in the fall!Any tips would be appreciated because I seriously do NOT have a green thumb! LOL | |
| | Starting My Life Over Again | | Hello allJust a bit of a rant here because you are all my friends and family here.Well life was good and treating me very well up til a few months ago. My boyfriend of 5 and a half years decided last month that he didnt want to be with me anymore because I didnt have a job and he said he was busting his butt everyday and not getting anywhere. Well that is because he pays child support big time on two kids.Anyhoo..I could not believe that he turned his back on me like he did and I came home one day and all my stuff was out in th driveway. But here is the kicker, after 5 years being with the best guy in the world, I mean I could not ask for anyone better then he was..but a few months back his mommy added him to her cell phone accout and got him a new phone and from then on her was attached to her apron string again. That is when things started to go down hill not to mention that we were also living with his dad because he had some health problems...big mistake there.So now he pertty much kept most of the stuff we had together and left me with just my clothes and the dog..So now I have to at 46 years old start my life all over again..done went through two bad... | |
